ESPI staff attended the 70th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Washington, D.C., which took place between 20 and 25 October 2019. The involvevement of ESPI during this annual event included chairing technical sessions, participation in IAF commitees, presentation of ESPI research activities, and involvement in various side events and meetings.
Among other things:
- ESPI Director Jean-Jacques Tortora co-chaired session E3.3.Space Economics from Apollo to Tomorrow. He also participated in the panel "EU Space: Trends for the future" and gave a keynote speech in introduction of the panel on "Economics of Procurement in Space & Defense Contracting".
- ESPI Coordinator of Studies Sebastien Moranta represented ESPI at the IAF Space Economy and Space Security Committees and participated to the Informal Consultation Group organised by UNIDIR and Secure World Foundation to discuss the implications of the commercialisation of military space services.
- ESPI Senior Research Fellow Marco Aliberti presented the ongoing ESPI research activities on Space Traffic Management at the 32nd IAA Symposium on Space Policy, Regulations and Economics.
- Mr. Claudiu Mihai Tăiatu (ESPI) presented a paper on "Small satellites in support of the Outer Space Treaty and Human Rights protection in Emerging countries", co-authored by Dr. Annette Froehlich (ESPI/DLR).
