Following his presentation during ESPI 11th Autumn Conference, Mr. Pierluigi Mancini, NAVISP Programme Manager at ESA, presents in this paper the rationale of the new ESA programme in the Navigation domain (NAVISP) and explains how the programme was designed to become a key enabler for innovation.

The concept of spacetug and satellite in-orbit servicing is not new and operators and governments have long waxed on the idea of cheaply extending the operational lifetime of their satellites. Yet, some recent announcements from satellite operators and manufacturing industry suggest a renewed interest in the concept, in particular for GEO satcom lifetime extension purposes.
